Monday, May 28 the prof. Vincenzo Della Mea of the University of Udine spoke at the conference "DEMENTIA FRIENDLY COMMUNITY. Living with Alzheimer's: is it possible to build a community of people with dementia? "To present the PollicIoT project.

The conference was organized in Trieste by Federsanità ANCI FVG, Association "Goffredo de Banfield", Association of Journalists FVG, Municipality of Trieste, ASUITS, Federation of Alzheimer Italy along with other partners and patrons, Dementia Friendly Community Italy, Coordination of Alzheimer FVG Associations, Federica Anci Lombardia, CARD FVG, ASP ITIS, "Pro Senectute" and Regional Institute for the blind "Rittmeyer" Trieste, Orders of Doctors, Nurses, Social Workers, Press Club of Trieste and IRSSES.

The aim of the initiative is to ensure that people always feel part of the community in which they live and can participate actively in them. The "friendly community" strives to preserve the independence and active living of the sick and their families, involving them to identify the aspects of daily life to be preserved and those to be improved, the difficulties they encounter in living public spaces, favoring their well-being.

The PollicIoT project, which has as its partner Cimtech Srl and Mipot Spa, wants to respond effectively to the needs of over 25 million people affected by Alzheimer's disease worldwide, 520,000 only in Italy. The design concept of PollicIoT offers, in a Smart Assisted Living scenario, a complete solution dedicated to the assistance of Alzheimer's patients: from a web platform the caregiver will be able to locate the patient or receive alarm notifications in case of fall or exit from predefined perimeters, thanks to a Wearable device equipped with GPS sensors and to identify the patient's position and movements.
