Fer-Net

Fer-Net is a project funded by the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia in the framework of the REP ERDF 2014-2020. The Fer-Net project is part of recent trends that are revolutionising the port concept, leading to an extension towards the dry ports connected to it up to incorporating them. Fer-Net intends to create a new prototype of port extension that will enable the Trieste-Fernetti dry port to act in complete continuity with the Port of Trieste, while maintaining its operational capabilities intact.

The goal of the Fer-Net project is to ensure that the dry port operates as a port terminal, effectively managing to transfer the entrance gates to the Port of Trieste within new equipped areas at the dry port and managing the vehicles moving on the motorway that separates the two structures as if they continued to be in the Port area. Fer-Net will grant the Trieste Port system a greater efficiency, overcoming the spatial and physical limitations of the territory and of the Port area, through technological and process innovation. The main result of the project is the development of a controlled corridor between the dry port and the Port of Trieste, which could result in an extension of the port dock to the Fernetti area.
