The Laboratory is available to companies for applied research and pre-competitive development projects in the field of metallurgy, surface technology and advanced materials.

The skills and added value of collaboration with the Department of Physical Chemistry and the Environment of the University of Udine also make it a place for technical and scientific training for personnel destined to carry out development activities in the metallurgical industry and in the field of surface coatings and composite materials.

The laboratory is divided into 2 sections

the "characterisation and analysis" section carries out investigations into the chemical composition and the main morphological and microstructural characteristics of materials and metal alloys, both on the surface and on the internal structure of the materials.
the "durability tests" section is equipped with machines suitable for performing mechanical and mechano-chemical tests to assess the in-service behaviour of metallic materials or mechanical components, with particular attention to the study of particular degradation phenomena such as fatigue, wear, oxidation, corrosion and combined phenomena.
All the sections are equipped with state-of-the-art scientific instrumentation, capable of allowing chemical and microstructural investigations, even at nanometric definition, and of performing complex mechanical and chemical resistance tests on components.
