The Laboratory is at the disposal of businesses for applied research projects and pre-competitive development in the metallurgical, surface technology and advanced materials fields.
The expertise and the added value of the collaboration with the Department of Physical Chemistry and Environment of the University of Udine also make it a place for technical and scientific training for personnel assigned with development activities in the metallurgical industry as well as in the surface coatings and composite materials fields.

The laboratory is divided into 2 sections:

  • the "characterisation and analysis" section carries out investigations on the chemical composition and on the main morphological and microstructural characteristics of metallic materials and alloys, both on the surface and on the internal structure of the materials.
  • the "durability test" section is equipped with machines that are suitable for performing mechanical and mechanical-chemical tests for behavioural assessment in the use of metallic materials or mechanical components, with particular attention paid to the study of degradation phenomena such as fatigue, wear, oxidation, corrosion and combined phenomena.

Both the sections are equipped with state-of-the-art scientific instruments that allow chemical and microstructural investigations to be performed even at nanometric definition as well as complex mechanical and chemical resistance tests on components.
